Abstract

The invention comprises (a) acid-addition salts of compounds of formula <FORM:1018381/C2/1> wherein S denotes 6- or 7-alkoxy, 6,7-dialkoxy or 6,7-methylene- or -ethylene-dioxy, the alkoxy groups having 1-4 carbon atoms and the broken line denoting that the substituents attached thereby are optional, (b) the free base compounds of the formula given above in which S is present, and (c) the preparation of both free bases and acid addition salts of the substituted and unsubstituted compounds of the formula given above by reacting an amine of formula <FORM:1018381/C2/2> or an acid addition salt thereof with cyanamide or with a compound containing a labile amidino group and, if desired, converting the free base into any acid-addition salt, or any acid addition salt into another acid-addition salt or into a free base. Preferred compounds having a labile amidino group are urea derivatives of formula <FORM:1018381/C2/3> in which R1 represents an alkylmercapto, alkoxy, pyrazolyl-(1) or alkyl-substituted pyrazoly-(1) group, any alkyl or alkoxy groups having 1-4 carbon atoms.ALSO:Pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions useful as hypotensives and as inhibitors of Irichomonas vaginalis, which may be administered orally or parenterally as tablets, capsules, elixirs, suspensions or solutions, comprise as active ingredients one or more compounds of formula <FORM:1018381/A5-A6/1> wherein S denotes 6- or 7- alkoxy, 6, 7-dialkoxy or 6, 7- methylene- or -ethylenedioxy, the alkoxy groups having 1-4 carbon atoms, and the broken line denotes that the substituents attached thereby are optional, or acid addition salts (e.g. salicylates or ascorbates) thereof. The invention also includes a process for rendering economically useful animals free from infections of Irichomonas vaginalis. by treating animals suffering from or subject to such infections with one or more compounds of the formula given above or their acid addition salts, or with a composition as described above.
