Abstract

1,017,925. Safelights. AUSTRALIA, DEPT. OF SUPPLY. Dec. 7, 1962 [Dec. 8, 1961], No. 46371/62. Heading H1F. For handling a photoconductive workpiece under a light source, a film of photoconductor material is interposed between the source and the workpiece, the photoconductor material of the film being similar to that of the workpiece so that the absorbtion bands of the materials coincide and the film absorbs light which would otherwise be absorbed by the workpiece. The coating may be applied to the envelope of an electric lamp and may consist of the photoconductor embedded in a resin of high electric resistivity, the coating being between 1 and 100 microns thick. Where the photoconductor is not of the continuous type, the volume of photoconductor is about four times the volume of the bonding medium. Examples are given of compositions containing alkyd resin Rhodene M8 and either zinc oxide, antimony trioxide, cadmium sulphide or bismuth thioxide, for use in each case with papers containing the same photoconductor. For use with selenium film or plates, a film of selenium may be vacuum evaporated on to the surface of the lamp.
