Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1017691/C2/1> (wherein R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, stand for alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or haloaralkyl radicals, wherein R3, R4 and R5, which may be the same or different, stand for hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals, and wherein the benzene ring A may optionally be further substituted by one or more halogen atoms) and acid addition salts thereof, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, and their preparation by (a)-in cases where R4 and R5 stand for hydrogen atoms-reducing a compound of the formula <FORM:1017691/C2/2> (b)-in cases where R4 stands for a hydrogen atom and R5 stands for an alkyl radical of the formula CHR6R7, wherein R6 and R7, which may be the same or different, stand for hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals, or wherein R4 and R5 both stand for methyl radicals-reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1017691/C2/3> (which may be generated in situ) or a salt thereof with R6R7CO under reducing conditions, (c)-in cases where R4 stands for a hydrogen atom and R5 stands for an alkyl radical other than a methyl radical-reducing a compound of the formula <FORM:1017691/C2/4> (wherein R8 stands for an alkyl radical), or (d)-in cases where R1 stands for an alkyl radical-reducing the corresponding compound wherein R1 stands for an alkenyl radical, optionally followed in each case by acid addition salt formation. The starting materials for process (a) are prepared by reacting the corresponding b -nitrostyrene derivative with a corresponding alkali metal alkoxide. The preparation of 3-allyloxybenzaldehyde, 3 - (4 - chlorobenzyloxy) benzaldehyde and N - butyryl - 2 - methoxy - 2 - (3 - methoxyphenyl) - ethylamine is also described. The compounds of the invention possess hypotensive properties and may be adminitered orally or parenterally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. tablets, capsules, solutions, suspensions, emulsions and dispersible powders) containing them together with a diluent or carrier.
