Abstract

1,017,231. Hydraulic pit props. MASTABAR MINING EQUIPMENT CO. Ltd. Dec. 7, 1961 [Dec. 22, 1960], No. 44174/60. Addition to 894,292. Heading E1E. In an hydraulic pit prop comprising inner and outer members 12, 10, a ram 26 separating the reservoir from the pressure chamber thereof and wherein a two-stage pump and valve means 40 are provided for prop extension purposes, the ram carries an hydraulic main seal 28 presenting a pair of spaced annular sealing lips 50, 52 resting respectively against the ram and the member 10. The ram is made in two relatively movable parts 30, 32 which when separated by excess movement of the pump plungers against the action of a spring 60 breaks the seal to allow collapse of the prop, the lips of the seal being normally urged apart by a spreader ring 56 carried by the member 32. The spreader ring may be of circular or wedgeshaped cross-section, see Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The device also incorporates a pressure relief valve 82 and an initial unloading valve 86.
