Abstract
1,016,945. Press-button devices. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC and ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 27, 1964 [March 1, 1963], No. 8218/64. Heading E2A. [Also in Division B4] A press-button device for moving an element 2 from an inoperative to an operative position and locking it in the latter comprises a pressbutton 1 for moving the element 2 between the two positions, a spring 12 for biasing the element 2 in the inoperative position, a second spring 13 for returning the press-button, a locking member 4 which engages the element 2 in the operative position, and a pawl 7 pivotally mounted on the locking arm 4 so as to project in the path of the press-button, the pawl being free to pivot out of this path when engaged by the press-button on its return movement but being restricted from pivoting when engaged on the forward movement thereof, and the press-button and the pawl being constructed to co-operate with one another with a cam action during the latter engagement so that the pawl is lifted by the press-button thus moving the locking arm 4 out of engagement with the element 2. The element 2 is moved to the operative position by pushing the press-button 1 inwards and on reaching this position, the element 2 is engaged by an abutment 6 on the locking member 4, the locking member being held in this position by a spring 14. During the return movement of the press-button, a projection 3 thereon engages the pawl 7 which pivots out of its path. When the button 1 is pressed again, the projection 3 engages the pawl in a direction in which it cannot pivot due to an abutment 9. Due to the inclined surface of the pawl, the abutment slides down this surface causing the locking arm to pivot about the axis 5 against the action of the spring 14 and thus releasing the abutment 6 from the element 2. The element 2 can thus return to the inoperative position under the action of the spring 12.
