Abstract

Compositions comprise (1) 5 to 80 weight per cent of a resinous polymer of vinyl chloride with 0 to 25 weight per cent of a monomer copolymerizable therewith and (2) 20 to 95 weight per cent of an essentially linear polyesterurethane made from (A) a hydroxyl terminated polyester of molecular weight 600 to 1200 made from a C2- 8 saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and a C2- 8 saturated aliphatic unsubstituted glycol, (B) 0.1 to 2.1 mols per mol of (A) of a free C2- 8 saturated aliphatic unsubstituted glycol and (C) an aromatic diisocyanate in amount equivalent to the combined molar quantities of (A) and (B). Specified acids are oxalic, succinic, glutaric, adipic, pimelic and suberic acids. Specified isocyanates are meta-tolylene, phenylene, diphenyl diphenyl-methane, ditolylmethane, diphenyl dimethylmethane, 1,5-naphthalene and benzidine diisocyanates. Specified vinyl chloride polymers are polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl esters, vinyl and isopropenyl ketones and ethers, olefins, vinyl aromatic and heterocyclic compounds, acrylic and substituted acrylic esters and nitriles, and vinylidene chloride. The compositions may contain stabilizers, e.g. organotin compounds and metal soaps, and pigments, e.g. carbon black, and may be moulded to form sheets, tubes and bottles, or dissolved in solvents, e.g. butyrolactone, tetrahydrofuran and dimethyl formamide, to give coating compositions. Examples describe compositions comprising polyesterurethanes derived from polytetramethylene adipate, 1,4-butanediol and diphenyl-methane diisocyanate, barium stearate and (I)-(III), (VI) and (VII) polyvinyl chloride, (IV) a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer and (V) polyvinyl chloride and a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer.
