Abstract

1338751 Epoxy resin based graft copolymers BAYER AG 15 Jan 1971 [27 Jan 1970] 2101/71 Heading C3G A stoving lacquer comprises (A) a graft copolymer having as graft base an epoxy resin which contains 1-7% by wt. of hydroxyl groups and more than one epoxide group per molecule, the graft base having been grafted with a monomer mixture comprising (a) 99À5- 60% by wt. of methyl methacrylate, (b) 0À5- 40% of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or anhydride and (c) 0-20% of one or more additional copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compounds free from acid groups, the epoxy resin comprising 30-98% by wt. of the graft copolymer, and (B) at least one hardener which is a polycarboxylic acid or anhydride or polyamide thereof, a N-methylolated polyurea or polyamide of a polycarboxylic acid, a substituted or unsubstituted lactam or dicyandiamide, a polyphenol, a polyurea, or a compound containing alkoxymethyl groups. In the examples epoxide resins were graft copolymerized with methyl methacrylate and acrylic acid, and optionally butyl acrylate, and the graft copolymers were mixed with trimellitic acid anhydride, titanium dioxide, methyl isobutylketone, xylene, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane, dibutyl tin dilaurate, ethyl glycol, caprolactam, N-methylol caprolactam adipic acid, ethanol, 4 - chloroisophthalic acid diamide, hexamethylene bis-methoxy-methyl urea, cyclohexanone, bisurethane of methoxy methyl isocyanate and 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane and/or diurea of tolylene diisocyanate and ammonia.
