1,154,725. Cross linked polymeric materials. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 Aug., 1966 [16 Sept., 1965], No. 39584/65. Headings C3B, C3C, C3P and C3R. Cross-linked polymeric materials are obtained by reacting a compound containing a plurality of beta-ketocarboxylic acid or amide groups with at least one H on the alpha carbon with an amine containing a plurality of primary or secondary amino groups under conditions whereby cross-linking with elimination of water takes place, at least one reactant having more than 2 of the specified reactive groups. The reactants may be monomeric or polymeric and modifying co-reactants, foaming agents and additives may be present during the reaction. Extensive lists of starting materials are given; the polyamine may be a polymer containing terminal or substituent amine groups while the acid reactant may be obtained by reacting an acetoacetic ester, diketene or an aldoketene dimer with polyols, polyamines or polymers containing hydroxyl or amino groups. Long lists of addition and condensation polymers which may contain such groups are given. Specified modifying reactants include polyepoxides, polyisocyanates, dialkyl oxalates and polyfunctional lactones or cyclic carbonates. Various foaming agents and surfactants which may be used in conjunction therewith are specified. Additives mentioned are flame retardants, plasticizers, colouring matter, fillers and antioxidants. Reference is made to Specification 1,154,726 which describes and claims some of the acid reactants.
