1,016,639. Making magnetic recording &c. heads; television. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 1, 1964 [May 6, 1963], No. 18186/64. Heading G5R. [Also in Division B3] The core of a ferrite video-frequency record/ playback head is finished over an elliptical region 21 of the tape-guiding surface 1, Fig. 6, by mounting the head at 16, Fig. 4, in a helicalwrap device, Fig. 3, approximating the record/ playback machine with which the head will later be used and grinding the surface 1 with an abrasive tape 9, the tape and head being driven at relative transducing speed. The tape 9 is a piece of the identical recording tape to be used later whose ferric-oxide/binder coating has been treated with an alcoholic suspension of 2 Á diamond dust particles which, on drying, become embedded in the tape coating.
