1,128,646. Magnetic heads. GRUNDIG ELEKTRO - MECHANISCHE VERSUCHSANSTALT. 11 Nov., 1966 [12 Nov., 1965; 12 Jan., 1966], No. 50763/66. Heading G5R. A record, playback, or erase head comprises ferrite core components 1, 2 between which non-magnetic gap-defining material is provided in the form of glass solder 3, the lateral surfaces determining the width of the track being polished optically flat and fused in the region of the rubbing surface 8 with continuous protective members 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of an abrasion-resistant non-magnetic material (which may or may not be the same as the glass solder 3) to which there are fused ferrite support members 4 likewise optically polished. Below the working gap, a portion 6 of the glass solder 3 extends into an aperture in the core through which passes the head winding 10. The cross-section of the head may be symmetrical (Figs. 1 to 4, not shown), or asymmetrical as shown.
