Abstract

A substance which increases the production of moulds of acids of the Krebs cycle, is obtained by mechanically removing liquid, e.g. by centrifugation, from the mycelium of moulds used to produce acids of the Krebs cycle, extracting the cellular material so obtained with water or methanol, removing acid residues from the extract as calcium salts, and isolating the substance from the extract chromatographically e.g. with a basic anion exchanger or with pulverized cellulose. In examples the substance is extracted from the mycelium of Aspergillus niger used to produce citric acid, from the mycelium of Aspergillus terreus used to produce itaconic acid, and from bacteria Escherichis coli.
