Abstract

The invention comprises the 3-cyclic ketals of 13b - n - propyl - gona - 4,9 - dien - 3 - one having the general formula <FORM:1015014/C2/1> in which R and R1, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and nis either 0 or 1 and R2 is the oxygen atom -O of a keto group, or hydrogen together with either an acyloxy group in the b orientation derived from an organic carboxylic acid having from 1-18 carbon atoms, or a b -hydroxy group and processes for the preparation thereof in which a 17b -acyloxy-13b -n-propyl-gona-4,9-dien-3-one is reacted with a ketalizing agent to form the corresponding 3-cyclic ketal, subjecting said cyclic ketal to saponification to obtain a 3-cyclic ketal of 17b -hydroxy-13b -n-propyl-gona-4,9-diene-3-one and oxidizing this compound to obtain a 3-cyclic ketal of 13b -n-propyl-gona-4,9-diene-3,17-dione.
