Abstract

The process of the parent Specification is used to prepare an amorphous sulphur-vulcanizable rubbery interpolymer of ethylene, at least one 1-olefin of the formula CH2 = CHR, wherein R is a saturated alkyl hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and at least one cyclic diene which is either dicyclopentadiene, its exo isomer or methyl cyclopentadiene dimer, the said polymer containing from 2 to 25% by weight of the cyclic diene based on the total weight of the interpolymer, the remainder consisting of from 30% to 80% by weight of the 1-olefin and correspondingly from 70% to 20% by weight of ethylene based on the weight of the remainder, which polymer has not more than 5% crystallinity in the unstretched condition as shown by X-ray scattering and yields on vulcanization to an optimum state of cure a vulcanized polymer of which not more than 8% by weight is soluble after 24 hours immersion in cyclohexane at 25 DEG C. The preferred 1-olefin is propylene.
