Abstract

An elastomeric, saturated copolymer formed from mono-olefins is vulcanized with an organic peroxide and a polynitroso compound. The copolymer may be derived from ethylene, propylene, butene, pentene, hexene and/or 4-methylpentene and, of the specified vulcanizing ingredients, those preferred are dicumyl, t-butylcumyl, di-t-butyl and lauroyl peroxides; and 1, 4-dinitroso-benzene and its alkyl substituted and polymerized derivatives, dibenzoyl-1, 4-dinitrosobenzene, and N-methyl-N, 4-dinitrosoaniline. The vulcanization may be applied to mixtures of copolymers. Carbon black and phenyl-beta-naphthylamine are specified as optional ingredients.
