Abstract
1,014,819. Boots &c. MOENUS FRANCE S.A. May 16, 1963 [May 17, 1962; Sept. 4, 1962; April 19, 1963], No. 19409/63. Heading A3B. A machine for flattening out and applying a tape 27 to the seam of a shoe upper includes a driven roller 2 having a convex profile, a roller 3 having a concave profile and which is actuated in a beating movement to flatten the seam, and a knife 41 to cut the tape 27. The knife 41 is mounted on collars 42, 43 which act as bearing blocks for a roller 45 around which the tape 27 passes, and a crank 47 is connected to the collar 42. The knife and roller assembly is carried by a plate 48 which can oscillate about the axle 4 for the roller 2 and is held In the position shown in Fig. 2 by a spring 54. The plate 48 can be moved by an electromagnet acting on a rod 49 which turns the plate in the direction of the arrow 53. The crank 47 is connected to a rod whose other end is pivoted to a fixed point on the machine frame so that as the plate 48 moves the collars 42, 43 rotate under the action of the crank to cause the knife 41 to sever the tape 27. The tape 27 is guided by a leaf spring 56 and the upper is guided by a spring 57. Before being flattened the seam is passed through a milling device consisting of a miller 34 having conical cheeks 34a (Fig. 5), the seam being pressed against the miller 34 by a spring loaded anvil 35.
