Abstract

1,014,571. Reciprocating pumps. HASKEL ENGINEERING & SUPPLY CO. June 1, 1964, No. 22597/64. Heading F1A A pump comprises a gas-driven reciprocating motor piston 12 secured to a pump piston 13 slidable in a combined bearing and seal 17 of sufficient length to preclude the pump piston 13 contacting a cylinder 14 in communication with a fluid pumping compartment 18, and an assembly of valves 30 automatically operative to supply gas from a source 75 alternately to each side of the piston 12 to cause reciprocation thereof. Liquid to be pumped is admitted to the compartment 18 through a check valve 21 and is discharged therefrom through a check valve 22. The valve assembly 30 controlling reciprocation of the motor piston 12 comprises a valve 60 having a spool 51 and spring loaded pilot valves 31, 41 which are alternately opened by the motor piston 12. As shown, gas is supplied to the motor piston upperside 12a from the source 75, through a groove 71 in the spool 51 and a conduit 65, to cause a downward pumping stroke of the piston 13. Gas is exhausted from the motor piston underside 12b through a conduit 67, a groove 72, a radial aperture 57 and an axial passage 56 in the spool 51 communicating with an outlet 77. Completion of the pumping stroke opens the pilot valve 41 so that gas passes from the source 75 through a conduit 62 to act on the lower face 54a of the spool 51 which then moves to its upper position. Thereafter gas passes to the motor piston underside 12b via the groove 72, and the conduit 67 to initiate the suction stroke; and gas is exhausted from the upperside 12a through the conduit 65, the groove 71, a radial passage 55, the axial passage 56 and the outlet 77. Completion of the suction stroke opens the pilot valve 31 whereby the gas pressure acting on the face 54a is relieved through conduits 63, 76 to allow the spool 51 to move to its lower position under the action of gas acting on its upper annular end 53a through a conduit 61.
