Abstract
1,014,319. Twisting yarn. E. BOBKOWICZ. Mar. 3, 1964.[March 5, 1963], No. 8913/64. Headings DID and D1F. Apparatus for producing twisted yarn from fibre strands, tapes, sliver or filaments and collecting it in package form comprises see Fig. 1, a pair of rollers 1, 2, a false twist device 7, a centrifugal pot 30 for collecting the yarn and automatic doffing mechanism to remove a complete package from the pot. False twist device. False twist is inparted by a body 7, rotated via a pulley 15 and belt 16, which body contains a cylindrical insert 6 having a helical groove 12 along which the material passes. A casing 5 containing the upper part of the body 7 is fed with compressed air and thus orifices 8, 9, 10, 11 in the body 7 direct jets of air against the yarn in its passage through body 7. In a modification for blades are provided on the body 7 within the casing to produce the air jets. In an alternative form, see Fig. 3, the twist device includes a pair of rollers 58, 59 mounted within a body rotatable by a pulley 74. The roller 59 against which roller 58 is urged has a bevel gear 60 and a counterweight gear 72 mounted on the ends of its axle, the gear 60 engaging a crown wheel 75 the shaft of which surrounds the lower part of body 76 and carries a driving pulley 73. Differential rotation of pulleys 73 and 74 causes roller 59 to rotate and forward the yarn as it is twisted. Air ducts 64, 65 are provided. The rollers 58, 59 may be driven at such a speed relative to rollers 1, 2 that the material, e.g. sliver is drafted. If the material contains or is bonded by, a thermoplastic material the delivery roller 1 may be heated to set the twist in the yarn. In this manner stretch or textured yarns may be produced. Traverse Mechanism. The inverted pot 30 has an upwardly extending tubular shaft 21 driveable via a pulley 25 and a belt 26. Journalled within this shaft is a tubular member 22 driveable via a pulley 19 and belt 20 and having mounted therein a central yarn guide tube 23. A tubular traverse member 24 journalled within member 22 has a longitudinal slot therein engaged by a keg 27 on the shaft 21 so as to be rotated at the same speed as shaft 21 but be capable of reciprocating motion. The traverse member 24 is provided with a double helical groove 29 engaged by a projection 28 on the member 22 so that differential rotation of pulleys 19 and 25 causes member 24 to reciprocate and lay the yarn in the pot 30. Doffing mechanism. When package 37 is completed a rotatable circular table 41, 42 is raised by a pneumatic cylinder 44 to engage a pot cover 38 which is a snap fit in the bottom of the pot. A circular cutter 42 engages the member 24 at the bottom of its stroke and severs the yarn passing therebetween. Simultaneously compressed air is introduced into an annular chamber 33 formed by a diaphragm 34 slidably-mounted in the top of the pot and upwardly urged by a spring 35. The diaphragm thus moves downwardly to force package 37 together with cover 38 clear of the pot. The pneumatic cylinder 44 then lowers the package whereupon a solenoid 46 pushes it from lid 38 on to an inclined receiving platform 45. The cover 38 is then raised by the cylinder 44 and inserted into the bottom of the pot ready for a fresh cycle. Since the table 41, 42 is rotatably mounted the pot 30 need not be brought completely to rest before the cover 38 is removed or inserted.
