Abstract

1,014,092. Hydrostatic transmissions. APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc. Nov. 27, 1963, No. 46858/63. Heading F2C. An hydrostatic transmission, particularly for a motor vehicle, comprising a system for delivering fluid to a number of motors includes a supply source for each motor, an independent source, and a one-way check valve between the independent source and each motor whereby this source may deliver fluid independently and separately to each motor. In the arrangement shown a pump P delivers about 40% of its output through pipes 1, 2 to each of two motors M1, M2 driving the wheels W1, W2, the remaining 20% being delivered by a pipe 3 and branch lines 4, 5 with check valves 4a, 5a to the respective motors. Each motor has flow and return lines 6, 7 with selector valves V1, V2 and relief valves 11, 12 preventing cavitation in the motors. The arrangement ensures equalization of tractive effort between the wheels during turning and prevents total loss of power to a slipping wheel. The single pump P may be replaced by three separate pumps, and for a vehicle with four-wheel drive a single pump with four main outlets and one auxiliary. outlet may be provided, or two separate pumps each with two main outlets and a single auxiliary outlet, the two latter being interconnected. Specifications 910,252 and 944,602 are referred to.
