A tamperproof screw cap of thin ductile metal has an upper threaded part 3 and a lower part 4 for engaging under a shoulder on a bottle neck, and the two parts are separated by two parallel interrupted slit lines 5 having a weakening line 7 extending between them. When the cap is unscrewed a portion 12 is separated from the parts 3, 4 to give a visual indication. Each line 5 comprises slits separated by bridges, and each line may have at least one bridge wider than the remainder. The line 7 extends from a slit in one line immediately adjacent a bridge which is wider than the other bridges in the line.
