Abstract

The invention comprises benzothiadiazine compounds of the formula <FORM:1013575/C2/1> wherein R is a halogen atom or a halogenated alkyl radical, e.g. Cl or CF3, and R1 is a 1,2-dialkyl-butyl, an a -cyclohexyl-ethyl or an a -methyl-halophenylalkyl, e.g. a -methyl-phenethyl, group; and their preparation by reacting an appropriate aminobenzene-2,4-disulphonamide with an aldehyde R1CHO, preferably in the presence of an acid substance as a catalyst. Pharmaceutical preparations having diuretic and natriuretic activity comprise the above compounds and an excipient, suitably in forms adapted to oral, rectal or parenteral administration such as tablets, suppositories or solutions, e.g. in propan-1,2-diol, polyethylene glycols esterified polyethylene glycols or aqueous media. The active compounds may optionally be used in the form of their salts with alkalis or organic bases such as mono- or di-ethanolamine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 861,367 and 877,552.
