A quick release fastening comprises a first belt attachment member 10 which is adapted to be secured to one end portion 13 of a belt and a second belt attachment member 11 which is adapted at or near one end to be secured to another end portion 15 of the belt and which is provided adjacent its other end with an aperture 16 through which the member 10 can be passed, the member 11 having on each lateral side of the aperture 16 a curved seating 17 having a slot 18 intermediate its ends, the two slots 18 being laterally aligned, the member 10 having on each side a laterally outwardly projecting lug 19 formed with a curved surface, the two surfaces thus provided being adapted to engage the curved seatings of the member 11, the width of the member 10 over the lugs 19 being greater than the width of the aperture 16 not including the slots but less than its width including the slots, the slots being sufficiently large in relation to the thickness of the lugs to permit the lugs to pass through the slots when the member 10 is arranged transversely of the aperture 16 the member 10 being turned through substantially a right angle after passing through the aperture 16 so that the curved surfaces of the lugs 19 are supported by the curved seatings of the member 11. As shown the member 11 has a second pair of seatings 17 arranged back-to-back with the first pair so that the member 10 can be passed through the aperture 16 from both sides. This second pair of seatings can be omitted if desired. The belt portion 13 as shown passes round a bar 12 arranged symmetrically in relation to the curved surfaces of the lugs 19, in a modification however the bar is assymmetrically arranged.
