Abstract

An organic compound having two or more isocyanate-reactive groups in its molecule and which can retain at least 2% by weight of water in solution is mixed with at least 1% by weight of water, allowed to stand for at least 1/2 hour, and the matured mixture so obtained mixed with an organic polyiso(thio)cyanate to produce a resilient polyurethane foam. The organic compound may be a polyester, polyesteramide, glycerides of hydroxy acids (e.g. main constituent of castor oil) or a polyether polyol, e.g. polyoxyalkylene diols and triols or tetrols derived from diamines. In examples: (1) water was mixed with a condensate of propylene oxide and glycerol and matured for 6 hours before reaction with toluene diisocyanate in the presence of triethylene diamine, stannous octoate, N-methyl-morpholine and silicone oil; (3) maturing time was 24 hours with reactants as in (1).
