Abstract
A method for removing dust from converter flue gases wherein the after-burning of the flue gases is prevented by covering the converter with a hood, is characterized in that the metallic substances in the flue gases are protected from oxidation, and are separated from the gases as metal on filtering substances. The hood of the converter is fitted with a conduit to allow a discharge of the flue gases, which are then passed, without cooling, through layers or columns of filtering material on which the metals and other impurities contained in the gases precipitate. The filtering material is preferably a substance that may be used in a blast furnace, e.g. coke, metal filings or small scrap, to remove the necessity for separation of the metal from the filter. The protection of the metal in the flue gases from oxidation may be improved by adding reducing agents such as carbon or oil to the flue gases. Magnetic separation may be applied to the gases in addition to the method of the invention.ALSO:In a method of extracting metal vapour and metal droplets from the waste gases from a steel converter, oxidation of the metal vapour and droplets is prevented, and the exhaust gases are passed through a filtering material, preferably comprising a material which may be used in iron and steel manufacture, e.g. iron and steel filings or scrap, or coke, so that a later separation of filter and deposited metal is unnecessary. The material may be in the form of a moving bed.
