Solids, treating with liquids.-Relates to portable apparatus for the production of fresh solutions, wherein two containers, one for the solvent and the other for the solute, are so arranged that the solvent can be brought suddenly into contact with the solute. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the solvent-container A has a neck B and terminates in a sharp point C. The solute is contained in a tube D passing through the neck and held in place by a rubber band E. Contact is effected by pushing in the tube so as to allow the solvent to enter an opening H. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the tube G for the solute is sealed at the bottom with wax &c. J adapted, when the tube is depressed, to be pierced by a point B on the bottom of the solvent-container A. The upper part of the tube contains a brush F accessible by breaking the end of the tube at a filed line L. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the solvent-container A has necks B, D, and the solute is contained in a sealed tube F, which passes through a stopper in the neck D. Contact is effected by pushing the tube through the upper neck, breaking the tube at a filed notch H, and retracting the tube into the bottle, which, after replacement of the stopper C, is then inverted. In other foms, a tube containing the solute projects through necks at both ends of a bulb and is broken at a filed notch by pressure on its ends; or a tube having a hole closed until required by wax or varnish passes through a stopper in the neck of a solvent-container; or an evacuated tube may be closed within the solvent-container by a cover which opens when a point projecting through a stopper is broken; or a glass plate covered with wax may be withdrawn from the end of a tube by means of a rod projecting through a stopper.
