Abstract

1,012,201. Thermal switches RANCO Inc. March 26, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 13055/64. Heading H2B. A snap - action switch has a movable contact arm 22, pivoted at 21, and a stuck-out lower spring tongue 30 seated in a V-shaped exterior 25c of a lever 25 also pivoted at 21, such that movement by a bimetal 46 of a driver member 42 engaging the end 25d of the lever 25 causes the toggle arrangement of lever 25 and spring 30 to go over-centre and move contact arm 22 with a snap-action between fixed contacts 16, 17. An electrical resistance heater 35 heats bimetal 40. An ambient temperature compensating bimetal 50 acts on end 42c of member. 42, and also serves as a calibrating load spring for resilient bimetal 40, being adjustable via a screw 54 in a U- shaped support 51. Stops 32, 33 limit movement of lever 25, and the driving member 42 is held connected with lever 25 and bimetals 40, 50 by spaced bearing members 44.
