Abstract
1,011,918. Electron beam deflecting apparatus. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. March 2, 1962 [Dec. 2, 1960], No. 41498/60. Heading H1D. A cathode-ray tube scanning coil assembly includes, at its forward end, a fixed auxiliary magnet arrangement comprising a complete, or split ring of magnetic material which produces a magnetic field generally transverse to the direction of line scan and extending over the effective scanning area. This field reduces pin cushion distortion in the vertical direction and tends to prevent barrel distortion at the top and bottom of the picture. As shown, the assembly includes a plastic element 3, interposed between the line and frame scanning coils, and formed with an axial flange 5 supporting the auxiliary magnet arrangement. Diametrically opposed cylindrical magnets 14 are fixed between arcuate pole-pieces 8, 9 by clips 15 to produce a substantially linear auxiliary field. The clips 15 may also support a plate for shorting out localized magnetic fields. A similar magnetic field may also be provided by a thermoplastic or rubber ring impregnated with magnetic material either alone or associated with two short magnets. Alternatively, two semi-circular magnetized strips can be used.
