Abstract

871,297. Electron beam deflecting apparatus. STEATITE RESEARCH CORPORATION. June 13, 1958 [June 19, 1957], No. 19042/58. Class 39(1). Pincushion distortion is compensated by barrel distortion introduced by making the sides of the magnetic yoke core surrounding the deflecting coils flat by slicing a hollow cylinder and by making each flattened part form with the internal flared portion a concavely shaped edge to introduce barrel distortion which compensates for the pincushion distortion present the core is made in several, e.g. four, parts and surrounds the 2 horizontal and 2 vertical scanning coils 31, Fig. 4. The ferromagnetic yoke is made of four moulded interfitting parts. The flared end of the core at 26 also matches the flared part of the tube bulb. A clamp 35 holds the four parts of the core together. The core is designed specifically for wide angle deflection cathode ray tubes, i.e, with a deflection angle of 90-110 degrees. Projecting portions 23, 24 are provided on each segment of the core. It is stated that the curved edge 29, Fig. 2, may produce the compensating barrel distortion. The core segments are of powdered iron, ferrous alloys or ferrites.
