Abstract

1,011,469. Transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 28, 1964 [Nov. 1, 1963], No. 43243/63. Heading H1T. In a single or polyphase instrument transformer the ferro-magnetic parts 3A, 3B of the core 3 are separated from one another by high resistance ferrite parts 3C, 3D which magnetically link the laminated parts but electrically insulate them from one another, so preventing flash over from the primary winding 7 to the secondary winding 11. The core may be mounted in an oil filled porcelain housing 5 and supported by the primary winding 7 made of stiff copper wire. In order to prevent the buildup from the oil of semi-conducting material around the ferrite parts horizontal insulating plates may be fitted thereon. The ferrite parts may be enclosed in separate oil-filled casings or may be in the open and the ferrite parts may be shaped to act as rain sheds and also may be of greater cross-section than the laminated parts. If the transformer is polyphase, the ferrite parts are arranged to give the necessary insulation in the vicinity of the primary windings. Air gaps may be provided in the core.
