Abstract

1,011,188. Voltage stabilizers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 10, 1963 [Oct. 13, 1962], No. 40018/63. Heading G3X. A load 50 is supplied from a voltage source U, having an internal resistance 12, by way of a radiating element 3 and a radiation-sensitive resistor 4; variations in load current cause corresponding variations in the radiation emitted by the element 3, and hence corresponding variations in the resistance of the resistor and which is responsive to radiation received from the element 3. The arrangement is such that when the load current increases, the increase in voltage-drop across the internal resistance 12 is compensated for a concurrent reduction in voltage across the radiationresistor 4, whereby the voltage across the load is maintained substantially constant. The element 3 may be a neon tube or a light radiating pn diode, and the resistor 4 a cadmium sulphide cell. A mask may be arranged between the elements 3 and 4. A resistor or a capacitor may be connected in parallel with the resistor 4, and a resistor may be connected across the output of the arrangement to prevent an excessive voltage increase across the load in the absence of a load current.
