Abstract
<PICT:1010488/C1/1> The admixture of water with the charge fed to a sinter machine is regulated in accordance with the gas permeability of the bed in the machine, which is measured by the pressure drop of a gas driven through the charge by a constant power fan. The amount of water delivered by sprays 19 to a blended charge of ore in a mixer 4 is kept at a constant level by a coarse regulator 13. The gas permeability of the bed on the sinter chain 3 is determined by the pressure drop, measured at 17, of a gas drawn through the bed by a suction fan 11, the pressure side of which is connected to the ignition hood 8. The measuring suction box 9 extends the full width of the chain 3 and is narrow in the direction of the chain length. The gap between the underside of the chain 3 and the front edge of the box 9 is kept constant. Changes in the pressure drop at 17, corresponding to changes in the permeability of the bed, operate a fine control 15 for the water sprays 19. In a sinter machine having two or more layers of charge, one fan and suction box measures the gas permeability of the lower layer, and a separate fan and suction box measures the permeability of two or more layers together so that the addition of water to each layer can be controlled.
