Abstract

1,009,997. Electromagnetic switches. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Aug. 28, 1962 [Sept. 25, 1961], No. 33055/62. Heading H2B. Magnetic speed contacts 16 (Figs. 1 and 2) are located in a refractory insulating tube 10 by side extensions 18 of the reeds engaging in internal slots 12 in the tube. The contact ends 20 are bent at an angle of about 8 degrees to permit adjustment of the gap between the contacts by longitudinal movement of the reeds 16 before they are sealed by brazing in slots 24 in metal caps 22 which are also brazed to metallized surfaces 14 of the tube 10. The tube 10 may be of forsterite and the surfaces 14 may be metallized with molybdenum. The extensions 18 may be roughened to engage the sides of the slots 12 or alternatively a spring 48 (Figs. 6 and 7) may retain each reed 50 in a wider slot 46 with the reed passing through a slot 60 in the spring 48. Fig. 11 shows an arrangement including one extension 42 on a reed 40 engaging in a slot 34 of the tube 32 and a spring plate 41 brazed to the reed 40 and engaging in slots 36, 38 in the tube 32. The tube 10 may be made of remanent magnetic material. Specification 870,906 is referred to.
