Abstract

1,009,673. Jig washer. STAMICARBON N.V. March 20, 1964 [March 26, 1963], No. 11925/64. Heading B2H. A jig washer comprises independent air inlet and exhaust valves 18, 20 for supplying and discharging air to and from one. or more air chambers 16 disposed under a screen plate 4 (or 4<SP>1</SP>), the mechanism for controlling the valves including means by which the exhaust valves can be held closed during an initial period following the starting of the jig so as quickly to restore the liquid levels in the air chambers. During idle periods of the jig, the liquid rises up through the air distributer pipe 17 to the level N and the starting procedure only allows operation of the inlet valves. The cycle of valve operations is governed by a cam shaft 23 driven by a motor 22, each cam 24 actuating a microswitch 25 incorporated in an electrical circuit for operating a valve arrangement 30, 31 which controls compressed air to and from a piston 34 mounted on the stem of the air valve 18 (or 20). When the jig is restarted after an idle period a preferably manually-operated push-button 28, which is incorporated in the electrical circuits for the exhaust valves 20, is pressed to maintain the valve in its closed position. Raw coal fed through an inlet 6 is separated on the screens 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, the shale and the middlings discharging respectively through float-controlled flap-valves 8, 12 and the clean coal discharging over a weir 14 into a shoot 15.
