Abstract

1,008,231. Temperature measurement. KOPPERS CO. Inc. Jan. 13,1964 [Jan. 31,1963], No. 1508/64. Heading G1D. Means for measuring the temperature of molten ferrous metal in a ladle 13 comprises a temperature probe 45 with a temperature sensing means e.g. a thermocouple element 59, Fig. 5, mounted at one end of the probe, and a mechanical linkage connected to the other end of the probe to move the probe into and out of the molten metal whilst maintaining the probe in a vertical position. The mechanical linkage is in the form of a parallelogram linkage comprising two arms 21, 22 journalled on a support at 30, 31 and on the probe at 37, 39. The arm 21 carries a counterweight 35 and a remotely controlled electric motor may be provided for driving the linkage. The probe 45 comprises a steel tube 50, Fig. 5, and the element 59 is mounted at its lower end in treated cardboard tubes 61, 62 and is protected by a cap 60.
