A non-consumable electrode arc welding torch for welding tubes to tube plates, comprises a stationary body secured to a locating member carrying a detachable plug insertable in the tube to be welded, and an electrode holder detachably mounted for rotation about the locating member. The body 34 of insulating material carries a glass shield 20 adapted to engage the tube plate 10 or a masking plate 22 serving to cover tubes adjacent the tube 12 being welded. A detachable two-piece copper plug 14 having a split expandable outer member 40 engages the tube 12 being welded and is carried by the locating member 36 which is water-cooled. A copper electrode holder 44 is detachably secured on a ceramic tube 42 rotatable about the locating member 36 by a warm drive. The electrode 16 and a gas nozzle 50 are secured in the holder 44. A spring-l oaded contact 56 engaging the holder 44 supplies welding current and argon is fed through a pipe 60 to the nozzle 50. To weld tubes of different diameter or to make a fillet weld using an inclined electrode, a suitable electrode holder 44 and plug 14 are substituted. To reduce the number of holders 44 required each may be provided with a plurality of locations for the electrode at varying radii. Alternatively, the holder 44 may be eccentrically mounted and angularly adjustable to alter the effective welding radius.
