Abstract

1,007,255. Welding by fusion. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. June 27, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No. 25898/62. Heading B3R. An arc welding torch for internal welding comprises an electrode holder 16 projecting from and rotatably mounted in the body 10 of the torch and housed in an insulating tube 14 insertable in the bore of a part 32 to be welded, a non-consumable electrode 18 and a shield 24 therefor projecting radially through an opening 22 in the insulating tube 14 and a locating member 36 carried by the body 10 and locating the torch within the bore, the electrode 18, the shield 24 and the member 36 being replaceable by others to suit different bore sizes. The body 10 is adjustable axially in the locating member 36 and is locked in position by a nut. The locating member clamps on to the part 32. The electrode 18 is carried by a collet 20 threaded into the holder 16 so as to provide fine radial adjustment of the electrode. The shield 24 is a ceramic gas nozzle threaded on to the holder 16 and supplied with inert gas, e.g. argon, from an inlet 27. Water is circulated through pipes 29 to the end of the holder 16. The holder 16 and the tube 14 are rotated by a worm drive 40 in the body 10. Specification 934,485 is referred to.
