Abstract

1,008,200. Selective " signalling " systems. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGSG.m.b.H. June 15, 1962 [June 16, 1961], No. 23109/62. Heading G4H. In a shaft-position encoder, the least significant track of a binary coded scale is sensed by a photodiode 0<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, and the remaining tracks are sensed by lead and lag photodiodes 1a, 1b to 3a, 3b. Complementary signals A 0 , A 0 are obtained from photodiode 0<SP>1</SP> by means of a bi-stable circuit FF. The output from photodiodes 1a, 1b is controlled by the signals A 0 , #A 0 by means of the circuit shown in Fig. 3. One or other of photodiodes 1a 1b must be illuminated and the associated transistor 1 or 2 must be cut off. The application of a negative A 0 or #A 0 signal to the resistor 5 or 6 associated with the illuminated photodiode has no effect and a negative potential appears at A 1 ,_the complementary signal being supplied at A, by inverter N 1 . If the negative A 0 or A 0 signal is applied to the resistor 5 or 6 associated with the non- illuminated photodiode 1a or 1b the associated transistor 1 or 2 conducts and negative potential appears on A 1 .
