Abstract

951,785. Selective signalling systems. LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. July 27, 1960 [July 29, 1959], No. 26127/60. Heading G4H. In a machine-tool control system, coarse control of motor 3, Fig. 1, is effected by a digital servo system including a comparator 8, and fine control of motor 3 is effected by an analogue servo system. Motor 3 drives a coded disc 2 and also a device 1 which produces an analogue voltage representing the shaft position within the range covered by one division on the least significant track of disc 2. Disc 2 besides carrying binary coded tracks 1-3, Fig. 4, also has two control tracks A, B, the divisions of which are equal to one half the divisions of track 1 and are displaced from each other by one quarter of a division, this corresponding to 25 units in the example shown where each division of track 1 corresponds to 100 units. Tracks 1-3 are sensed by lead and lag devices 21a, 21b-23a, 23b and tracks A, B are sensed by devices 19, 20 which are displaced from the centre line 18, preferably by 12. 5 units. Disc 2, Fig. 1, supplies comparator 8 with signals from tracks A, B as well as the binary-coded tracks, and a logic circuit 10 supplied with the two least significant decimal digits of the desired position determines which of tracks A and B is to be effective, track A being selected for the first and third quarters of a division of track 1 i.e. 0-24 and 50-74 units, and track B being selected for the second and fourth quarters, i.e. 25-49 and 75-99 units. The two least significant decimal digits are further supplied to an analogue to digital converter 7, and the sum of the voltages from converter 7 and device 1 is supplied to contact 6b of switch 6. Circuit 10 ensures that the zero output from comparator 8 occurs when the motor shaft is about 25 units from the desired position, switch 6 then operating to select contact 6b for control of motor 3 and reducing the motor speed to avoid overrunning.
