100,762. Justice, P. M., (Pratt & Whitney Co.). Feb. 29, 1916. Lathe and like drivers and carriers; chucks. -The driver 5 is internally toothed at 8 and engages the externally toothed driven member 6 so as to allow float. The member 6 carries transversely oscillating members 12 provided with spring-controlled eccentric oscillating jaws 18. The members 12 are closed by a spring 11 acting through cam-grooves 15 in a member 10 loose on the driver. Dirt is excluded from the grooves by a cover-plate 16. To open the jaws, a member 22 loose on the spindle is shifted to bring the projections 32, 21 into contact. The member 22 is held against rotation to a degree determined by springs 26 and friction washers 25, 31, the member 24 being held against rotation by its connexion to the control lever 33.
