Abstract

1,007,352. Strap tensioning device. STANLEY WORKS. July 1, 1964 [Sept. 10, 1963], No. 27126/64. Heading F2G. A strap tensioning tool 10 comprises a base member 12, a column 20 supporting a tensioning wheel 28, operated by lever 30 and a tensioner member 34, situated between the wheel and the base member. The strap passes between the tensioner member 34 and the base 12, where it is gripped by teeth on the base, around a package to be strapped and back between the wheel 28 and the tensioner member 34. The member 34 has a concave surface 66 facing the wheel and of approximately the same radius of curvature as the wheel and is of semi-rigid material. In operation the wheel 28 is forced down to grip the strap between the wheel and member 34 and between member 34 and the base 12. Depression of the lever 30 rotates the wheel and tensions the strap, the shape of member 34 allowing an increase area of contact between the wheel and the strap. When the strap is sufficiently tensioned a seal 46 is attached to it and the strapping is cut at severing station 36.
