Abstract

1,007,311. Monitoring recordings. NIPPON VICTOR KABUSHIKI KAISHA. April 9, 1962 [Sept. 22, 1961], No. 13586/62. Heading G5R. The drum 4 of a helical-scan, oblique track magnetic recorder carries record/playback heads 5 and monitor heads 6 aligned trackwise by axial displacement on the drum 4. In Figs. 4, 5, the heads are single for use in 360 degrees-wrap apparatus, while in Fig. 9 the heads are duplicated (5, 5<SP>1</SP> and 6, 6<SP>1</SP>) for use in 180 degrees-wrap apparatus. In Fig. 5, an erase head 11 erases a narrow track ahead of the record/playback head 5, thus saving on erase power dissipation as compared with a fixed head erasing all parts of the tape whether or not these will carry tracks. In alternative embodiments (not illustrated) the heads are all axially aligned but of differing track-widths, so that a sufficient width is erased for tracking by the following record/playback and monitoring heads.
