Abstract

1,007,117. Batching articles. BAKER, PERKINS Ltd. May 29, 1964 [June 7, 1963], No. 22824/63. Heading B8A. An apparatus for batching biscuits comprises a conveyer 1 for feeding biscuits in a single row 2 to a guide 3 leading to a wheel 6 turning above a support surface 7 for the biscuits, the major portion of the periphery of the wheel 6 being formed with equally spaced biscuit receiving recesses 8, the remaining portion 9 having no recesses and passing close to the end of the guide 3 to interrupt the feed of biscuits, and a deflector 15 for removing biscuits from the recesses 8 and passing them to a further conveyer 17. A gap between the conveyer 2 and guide 3, and an arcuate slot 10 in the plate 7 under the travel path of the biscuits allows crumbs to drop away from the apparatus. The plate 7 and wheel 6 thereabove are inclined at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal. The guide 15 is divided into two channels 30, 31 into which alternate biscuits are deflected by a vertically reciprocating deflector 23. The latter is operated by an arm 24 driven by an eccentric 25. Each channel 30, 31 including an escapement mechanism 34 having fingers 32 projecting upwardly through slots 33 in the channel floor, and these are driven such that the biscuit in one channel is arrested until a biscuit is in the other channel and then they are released simultaneously and pass on to the further conveyer 17 to form two parallel rows of biscuits 20, 21. The escapements 34, eccentric 25, wheel 6 and conveyer 1 are all driven in synchronism, the latter two such that the accumulation of biscuits on guide 3 due to the presence of the wheel portion 9 is cleared by the time the portion 9 returns on the next cycle.
