Abstract

733,654. Feeding biscuits to endless conveyers. FORSTERS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Nov. 10, 1953 [Nov. 10, 1952], No. 28324/52. Class 78 (1). A biscuit collating machine comprises hoppers A-J in which the biscuits are first stacked, the lowermost biscuits in the respective stacks being at different stepped levels, means 40 for moving the lowermost biscuit in. each stack transversely so that it enters on or between a set of horizontal guide plates whereby a group of biscuits supported by the guides is formed, and conveyer means 74 for moving the group of biscuits as a group longitudinally of the machine and between said guide for, delivery to a wrapping machine. As shown, a typical hopper A (Fig. 4) has its two front anglemembers 6a, 6b carried respectively by bars 13, 14 separately or collectively adjustable, and its back rods 7, 7a carried by bar 23, also adjustable. These bars are carried so that the hopper system pivots about 30 so as to give access to the conveyer 74. The hoppers A-J have their lowermost biscuits on guides 56 positioned at different levels, the biscuits resting on removable blocks on said guides, the blocks being of different thicknesses to suit different biscuits. The biscuits are discharged from the hoppers to the conveyer 74 by plungers 41, which plungers are on different levels and of which two may be coupled to work together, the plungers being oscillated by cams 50 operated synchronously by conveyer 74. The biscuits are then pushed forward by a finger of the endless conveyer 74 so that one by one they enter a guide 56 (Fig. 7) and, since the guides are short, one by one drop on to each other to form a group which is pushed around a curved guide till it falls on to the bed of a wrapping machine. With each plunger is associated a brush under which the plunger pushes the biscuit towards the conveyer. The fingers of conveyer 74 may be rounded to engage round biscuits, and may be adjustable in position. Specification 712,829 is referred to.
