Abstract

A conveyer C in a mine is pushed over by a short double-acting ram, comprising a cylinder 14 and piston 15, carried on a base 10 on which are hydraulic props 11, 12 supporting a roof bar 13. After pushing over the conveyer C the ram is used to advance the base 10 up to the conveyer. An elongated rigid bar 16 is attached to the conveyer C at 17 and extends into the base 10 in which it is free to slide. A belt 16a with a small amount of slack is attached to the bar 16 at each end 18, 19 and passes between a ram 22 and an anvil 23 of a clutching device with an hydraulic cylinder 21. To advance the conveyer pressure fluid is fed to the cylinder 21 so that the belt 16a is clamped between the ram 22 and anvil 23. A sequence valve (not shown) then allows pressure to build up behind the piston 15 so that the belt 16a and bar 16 are advanced a short distance equal to the stroke of the piston 15 thus advancing the conveyer C. At the end of this stroke ram 22 is released and piston 15 retracted without moving the belt 16a or bar 16. This cycle is repeated until the conveyer has been advanced step-by-step the required amount. To draw the base 10 carrying the props 11, 12 and roof bar 13 up to the conveyer C the action of the piston 15 is reversed with respect to the action of the ram 22. The several necessary short strokes of piston 15 and ram 22 are caused to take plaee automatically by valve mechanisms (not shown).
