Abstract

An hydraulic apparatus for tensioning and drawing an anchor head on rods or cables 1 embedded in and extending from a structure or block 2 comprises a cylinder 4 through which the cables extend and in which a hollow pistonrod 13 having pistons 8 and 9 is longitudinally movable to tension the cables via a cable clamping device 25, 26 and to draw an anchor head out of a socket 3 via die 14. In operation, fluid pressure is supplied to a chamber 7 to move the piston 9 to the right, this causing the clamp 25, 26 to grip the cables as it is moved to the right via the piston-rod 13, a distance-piece 28 and transverse keys 18, 19 extending through the cylinder 4 and movable in longitudinal slots therein. The die 14, socket 3 and a punch 17 slidable within the rod 13 also move to the right. The tension is maintained in the cables once the pressure is released from the chamber 7, by a nut 42 engaging threads 27 on the device 25, 26 and abutting a nut 33 secured in the end of the cylinder 4. Before starting the drawing operation, a chamber 6 is pressurized and piston 8 moves the rod 13 and die 14 back to its original position, and after the socket 3 and punch 17 have been returned to their original positions the keys 18, 19 are withdrawn and reinserted in the slots at the other side of the distance piece 28 which is moved to the right into abutment with a piston 36 (Fig. 3, not shown). The socket 3 can now be drawn into an anchor head by the die 14 as pressure is again supplied to move the piston 9, its rod 13 and the die 14 to the right, the punch 17 resisting movement of the socket 3 to the right. However, with increase in length of the socket 3 as it is drawn, the punch does move to the right against the resistance of the piston 36 whose chamber 38 is pressurized.
