In a type-casting machine means for providing a delay between signalling a space-band release and actuation of a solenoid for releasing a space-band includes the known type of keyboard cam, Fig. 2 (not shown) providing an initial delay, and electrical means, Fig. 6, adapted to provide an additional delay. Actuation of the keyboard cam (either manually or electrically as by coded tape) closes a switch 61 after the initial delay. This energizes a first relay RA to discharge the capacitor C1 in a resistance-capacitor circuit, and thereby causes the transistor to conduct after the additional delay. This in turn energizes a second relay RB, connected in the transistor circuit, which results in the energization of the space-band release solenoid 35. Switching in the additional capacitor C2 in parallel with C1 and varying the setting of the potentiometer 65, provides variation of the time of the additional delay. Space-band escape mechanism.-The spaceband release solenoid 35 has its armature connected by a link 40, Fig. 3, to a lever 41 pivoted at 42 and biased by a spring 44, Fig. 4 (not shown) in a clockwise direction. A U- shaped bracket 49, with fingers 51 for engaging the ears 16 of the space-band, is attached to an inverted L-shaped cam member 47 of the lever 41. Energizing solenoid 31 rotates the armature in the direction of the arrow, which results in lifting the spaceband by the ears 16 co-operating with the fingers 51, above the stops 30 of the magazine, which allows the spaceband to enter the shoot and be assembled.
