Abstract
100,688. Santamaria, A. S. de. June 15, 1915, [Convention date]. Tension apparatus.-An apparatus for setting fractured limbs comprises a pair of curved metal plates c which are secured by plastered gauze to the limb on each side of the fracture. The spherical ends b of rods a secured to the plates, are then inserted loosely in split clamps f by screwing up butterfly-nuts h. The oppositely-threaded screw apparatus d, e is manipulated to separate the plates until the fractured ends of the bone no longer overlap. Either end of the appliance can then be moved laterally about the remote ball b as a pivot until the two parts of the bone are in alinement, whereupon the nuts h are screwed up tightly to lock the whole appliance, so that it acts similarly to a rigid splint, in which position it remains until the fracture is healed. Usually, two such appliances would be used, one on either side of the limb.
