Abstract
1,006,433. High voltage switches. LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. May 16, 1962 [May 18, 1961; Dec. 27, 1961], No. 18848/62. Heading H2B. In a circuit-breaker having fixed and movable contacts E 1 , E 2 supported by an insulating casing J which surrounds the contact gap T, the casing is interrupted by a metal electrode Ee and means, e.g. a switch ES is provided to connect the electrode to earth when the circuitbreaker is open. It is stated that this arrangement enables a power circuit-breaker to serve also as a disconnecting switch. The switch ES may be operated by a separate switching operation or automatically on the operation of the circuit-breaker and locking devices may be provided to ensure that the electrode is only earthed when the circuit-breaker is open and is disconnected from earth before the circuitbreaker is closed. The electrode may be substantially annular and of non-magnetic metal. An insulating bead may be formed on or around the part of electrode projecting outside the casing, Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown).
