Abstract

[Also in Division B7] In a mobile power unit comprising a wheeled chassis which carries a diesel or gas turbine engine driving an output shaft employed to provide electric, pneumatic or hydraulic power, the output shaft 4 is coupled by a synchronized dog-clutch 9 to a shaft 3 which is driven from the engine through a friction clutch and carries a pinion 12 driving a pinion 13 on the lay-shaft 14 of a change-speed mechanism within a casing 8. The shaft 3 may alternatively drive the change-speed mechanism through a disengageable coupling. A pinion 23 on the mainshaft 15 of the change-speed mechanism is connected through a transfer pinion (not shown) to a pinion 24 driving the input shaft of a differential axle carrying the rear wheel of the chassis.
