Abstract
1,005,698. Metallurgical converter bottoms. HUTTENWERK SALZGITTER A.G. Aug. 14, 1963 [Aug. 20, 1962], No. 32151/63. Heading F4B. A bottom-blast tuyere box, having a hollow ring 7 disposed adjacent its inner periphery in the dead zone beyond the outermost ring of tuyeres 5, is provided with an upwardlydiverging funnel-shaped blast guide 24, which is connected to the top edge of the ring at its upper periphery and to an upwardly curved bottom cover 6 at its inner periphery, said guide having radial opening 23<SP>1</SP> bounded by parallel side walls 25. The periphery 17 of the sheetmetal guide may be alternatively supported on a horizontal partition inside the cover 6, and the wall directly opposite the radial funnel opening may be less steep than the remaining surface. Fig. 3 (not shown), illustrates a means of sealing the blast guide from the dead region containing the ring 7. Plates, initially projecting above the datum level of the converter bottom, are frictionally held between an extension of the inner wall of the ring and clamping strips such that solid plates are pressed down by the converter bottom on installation of the box.
