Abstract

1,005,442. Valves. SERCK RADIATORS Ltd. March 13, 1963 [March 13, 1962], No. 9549/62. Heading F2V. A control valve comprises a chamber 1 having inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 respectively, a control member 4 extending into the chamber and having a resilient element 5 intermediate its ends which sealingly engages the wall of the chamber whilst allowing the control member to pivot thereon, the outer end of the control member being movable against a resilient loading such as that of a spring 10 by a fluid-pressure actuated device such as a piston and cylinder 11, 12 to cause the pivoting whilst maintaining the sealing engagement of the resilient element 5, and the inner end of the control member carrying a closure member 6 which is engageable with one of the fluid ports 2, 3, the arrangement being such that failure of the fluid pressure acting on the piston 11 allows the spring to close the valve. In the embodiment, the closure member 6 comprises a resilient plug inserted in the control member and engaging the outlet port. The actuating cylinder 12 is in communication with the pressure at the valve inlet 2. The valve may be connected to a piston and cylinder unit 14 for operation thereof.
